WAY too much information

The first pangs of homesickness…. I’m on my balcony past my bedtime on Sunday night listening to Toše Proeski sing “The Hardest Thing” and whining a little bit. I’m whining, not Toše. Saw lots of people this weekend and did lots of cool things, but now it’s been a quiet afternoon and I’m wistful for my porch and my cat back home. But I’m okay.

I’ve started my anti-worming medicine, which I think is a dirty little secret I’m not supposed to share with outside friends and family. I think expats here keep stories in-country so we will still get visitors. No big deal, I’ve heard. I haven’t been sick, but ever since an evil man at work (okay, my teaching partner Dave) described the process of having worms in great detail I’ve felt a little wormy. I’m always the one susceptible to the mere thought of minute creatures infesting my body. Nearly every year I’m convinced I have lice (a hazard of teaching) and itch like crazy until I’m checked and then suddenly I’m cured. Here the cure is to go ahead and take the three-day course of chewable tablets. Unless you have a partner who can examine intimate parts of your body in a process I will not describe.  Except to say it involves midnight and a flashlight.  I will let you know if the cure I'm trying is nasty.

So, I got out the camera this weekend. Had to recharge the batteries. Here are two pictures of my apartment. You'll have to wait to see the rest, so I don't lose your interest!  Cool market pictures from this weekend also on the way later.
My balcony

And the living room.  I plan to get a real couch, as this one is so not comfortable.

  2. hello to my favorite hypochondriac--

i totally had something to tell you, and i forgot, now that i've started writing. your apartment looks AMAZING. you have to try to live there for a few years so i can come and visit you. oh--when is your sister's wedding? she asked for my address yesterday, but she comes and goes at will, and i never get to ask her anything.
oh yeah....your blog reminded me of an episode of House, where some chick had worms and she got really sick and looked like she was having seizures all the time. they showed pictures of worms. they're gross. oh- and she was a kindergarten teacher too. i hope you're not one of those. :)
miss you. maybe i will have to start my own blog so i can keep you updated. hugs!

  3. What a neat looking place you have to live in. :) How are you liking the journey so far? Sounds like quite an interesting adventure. And worms...well, good luck with that. =)

  4. hi heather,
so i didn't actually have worms. but does it count as being a hypochondriac if you are in bed with a fever for FOUR days?!?! but, you are right, i am. m is getting married october 9th, but i hear the invitations have not been sent out yet. i told her to get them right out. just booked my ticket last week.

i know, sadly i saw that episode, too. which is why the worm thing was so vivid. some things are better left unthought about, right?

  5. Mmmmm...i don't know how to comment individually on this thing. Yes, the whole flat is mine. The owners live on the bottom floor and my friend lynsay lives on the floor above mine. and apparently a danish woman live above her. it is funny to go upstairs to lysays and see EXACTLY THE SAME house, just a bit higher up. the views are slightly off.

it is pretty great here. i do love it, especially when i'm not sick. the one pain is that it is hot all the time, but the food is good and you can't have everything!
